On Friday, March 13th- the Legacy- Martin County’s Adult Leadership class met in the Martin County Courthouse in the Commissioner’s room. Today was Non-Profit Day and Community Service Day. The group was fortunate to have Kenny Lannan, the Vice-President of the Martin County Council on Aging come in and share with the group the services that the Council on Aging offers for Senior Citizens in the Community.

Next up on the agenda, Curt Johnson and Megan Hawkins shared with the group the impacts that the Martin County Community Foundation has on the County. Curt shared that the Community Foundation is a granting organization that gives funds to the organizations that are serving as the boots on the ground. Curt shared that the Community Foundation awarded nearly a million dollars in grants to local non profits last year!  Which is absolutely amazing, especially for a County our size!

And last on the agenda was Amanda Johnson with Hoosier Uplands. Amanda shared of all the services and opportunities that Hoosier Uplands offers many people in our Community.

Today the Leadership Class learned the impact these Non-Profits have on people’s quality of life in the County.

The Class also had an individual assignment of completing a vision board. The vision board serves as a plan and a road map on what these leaders want to do and where they are going. They did a great job presenting their vision boards and sharing what they are passionate about with each other.

This afternoon was the Leadership’s class turn to give back. Their Community Service hours were spent at the Martin County Historical Society, sweeping, dusting, and cleaning the glass cases and windows! After all leadership is not a position or a title, it is action and example.

Next month, this 2nd cohort of Legacy Leaders graduate and complete their Capstone Project!
